Large Scale Solar Power Array

More than 460 panels installed on a Victoria Business Park site.

Consort Frozen Foods, whose head office is based on the Victoria Business Park, has just completed the installation of Solar PV at their Burgess Hill and Ashford depots.

With over 460 panels being installed at Burgess Hill and nearly as many at Ashford this has been the culmination of many months hard work, alongside their consultants, and fellow BHBPA member Auditel, and the installers Low Carbon Energy Ltd.

Consort has been mindful of the need to find alternative and greener sources of energy as it operates huge cold stores 24/7, operating at -20 degrees C. Although Auditel have helped secure a 100% Clean Renewable energy supplier (which counts as zero-carbon for foot-printing purposes), Consort wished to go further in reducing its carbon footprint and at the same time protect itself from future price fluctuations in energy costs.

460 panels – the solar PV installation at the Burgess Hill depot
Over the coming months Consort will be monitoring the effectiveness of the Solar PV, although the real benefits will be seen during the spring and summer months (hopefully!).

We will be looking at what further measures we can take to reduce the cost of purchased energy and how to use the energy it does produce through the Solar PV to offset the cost of installation and raise additional revenue.
