BLUEBIRDS ARE GO...

Community Transport Sussex is the key provider of assisted community transport in the Mid Sussex area – our Bluebird minibuses are regularly to be seen on Burgess Hill and the surrounding local area roads.

Covid-19 has restricted the ability of the more vulnerable in the community to get out to medical appointments, shopping, seeing their families and accessing community groups. Many are restricted from accessing their Covid-19 Vaccination Hubs through lack of suitable socially distanced transport. One notable effect has been those previously at risk of social isolation are in danger of becoming even more isolated.

Bluebird staff have been busy recently calling our members at home, chatting to those who are feeling cut off and isolated due to the pandemic. Working in partnership with Age UK and West Sussex County Council, Bluebird are now delivering meals in the town as part of the ‘Winter Warmer Programme’, also delivering prescriptions and food parcels where required.

Due to the receipt of funding, Bluebird are now offering a limited number of free collection and returns to local Covid-19 Vaccination Hubs for the elderly, serviced from Community Transport Sussex’s depots across Mid Sussex.

Safety is clearly a major concern for anyone using transport currently and CT Sussex have invested in a new Covid-19 safety

video which explains how we are a safe alternative to public transport…

Those who use our services, are vulnerable members of the community who are elderly, have mobility, health and disability issues. Many have mental health issues and need to access their day care and community group centres. Some travel with carers who by the way travel free on our transport. Anyone can access our assisted transport – there is no age limit – it is available for anyone who struggles to access mainstream transport.

Bluebird have continued to offer a supportive service to the Mid Sussex community throughout the pandemic, taking special needs students to school, transporting our members to hospital, medical appointments and between lockdowns we launched a Shopping Bus which enabled access to the shops in a safe and socially distanced way.

Please do take a look at our Covid-19 Safety Video to see for yourself how we have sustained our established and crucial community transport services throughout the pandemic.

Stay safe and stay well everyone!
