Business Studies Trip – Year 10:

On Friday the 4th of May, the Year 10 business studies classes went on a trip to the King’s Centre in Burgess Hill Industrial Estate where local businesses were exhibiting their companies. Once there, we had time to walk around and speak to the local businesses gathered there. In a well-designed plan to improve our people skills we were asked to complete a questionnaire which required us to engage in conversation with representatives from the business. These questions ranged from what services businesses provided to specific questions about running, managing and financing a business.

Many of the businesses offer apprenticeship courses and employ people from the age of 16. It allowed us to make connections and think about our futures after year 11. Due to the strategic placement of free gifts everyone was able to gather the courage to ask about how their businesses were run successfully, where businesses were based and were given advice about where you begin with your own business.

It was extremely useful as we were able to put what we had learned into a business context and find real life examples of where facts were relevant. It opened our eyes to the possibilities that aren’t as rigid as A-levels. The people we spoke to were able to answer our questions and explain how their different roles fitted into the business. All in all, it was very informative and thoroughly enjoyable. A big thank you to Mr Smith and Mrs Dorgan for organising the trip.
