Road Closure News

Update as of Friday 10th January.

The contraflow traffic lights at Keymer Road by the Burgess Hill School for Girls were removed at the end of last week and Leylands Road was partially opened with contra flow lights installed either side of the Wivelsfield Station bridge, both as planned. There appears to be good management of the Leylands Road contra flow by the Network Rail contractor, although when aggregate is being brought in, there is an impact on traffic flow while the large vehicles are manoeuvred on to the site.

Monday 13th looks like it might be a challenging day on the roads. According to the One.Network web site, the ‘red’ dot roadworks expected for the working week of 13th to 17th January are as follows:

  • Leylands Road – Network Rail (* see below) – 2 way traffic control through to 29th January
  • Keymer Road south of Folders Lane – UK Power Networks – 2 way traffic control on 13th January
  • Victoria Gardens – Southern Water – Multi way signals, on 14th & 15th January
  • Jane Murray Way – WSCC – on 13th January
  • Marchants Way – Southern Gas Networks, continuation of work in progress, 7th to 24th January

* As of Friday 10th January, Network Rail advised me that while they had been expecting to complete their works by 9th January 2019 (as I previously reported to members), unfortunately due to further cracks appearing in the embankment, they are now looking at a completion date of end of February. I don’t know whether this will impact the Leylands Road contra flow beyond the One.Network date of 29th January above. I am sure we all understand that keeping the Brighton Main Line open and the railway safe is Network Rail’s top priority in our area.

My source for road work information is One.Network – – a central map for tracking traffic disruptions. You can specify area and a range of dates for your own enquiries.
