Judges Choose Urinal Cake

Burgess Hill Business Bakes for Charity

 

Burgess Hill Business Parks are known for their diverse range of products and services on home ground as well as exported globally, but what they aren’t known for is baking. However, in light of today’s baking challenge, all of that might be about to change.

 

Today, the day after The Great British Bake Off winner was crowned, The King’s Centre, Burgess Hill, played host to The BHBPA Awesome Autumn Battle of the Bakes, in support of St Peter & St James Hospice. More than thirty entries were received from enthusiasts and first-time bakers alike. The standard was unbelievably high, with delicious flavours, textures and truly awesome autumn decoration. The event raised £310 for its chosen charity, and it’s clear to see that baking is definitely on the agenda for business in Burgess Hill!

 

The competition included two individual categories and a company-orientated category for a Corporate Showstopper Cake that reflected the business, its products or people.

 

The competition was judged by two representatives from Burgess Hill based Lizzie’s Food Factory, Senior Cake Decorator, Shakira Tettersell and Sales Manager, Kevin Chaplin.

 

And the winners were:

 

Individual Categories

 

Nettie Hickling from Bio-Productions with her Fox, Owl & Bonfire Night Cup Cakes. The judges commented on the great chocolate flavour, moist texture with good decoration.

 

Martyn Blundell of Ridgeview with his highly decorative butterscotch and apple cake. The judges thought it had a fantastic flavour, unusual but worked well, was very moist and had great decoration.

 

Corporate Showstopper Cake (three joint-winners)

 

PVL – with the PVL Van Cake – “Clearly home-made, tasted like a real cake and very moist.

 

Clifford Dan with their Pumpkin House – “Great decoration.”

 

Bio-Productions with a highly original Urinal Cake – “The only toilet cake we have ever seen.

 

The judges made special mention of the attributes of many of the other cakes, cookies and biscuits.

 

Peter Liddell, Co-ordinator of the Burgess Hill Business Park was extremely enthusiastic about the event, “We are a very friendly and close-knit business association and this was a perfect event for us. It really surpassed my expectations, so many contributed and turned out in support. It’s a revelation that baking is good for business!”
