November is shaping up to be busy month for Burgess Hill! There are lots of activities and events planned with the main focus on Christmas of course. The Christmas Lights Switch-On will be taking place on Saturday 19th November. Parking in MSDC short stay car parks will be free from 1pm on this day and we are expecting the town centre to be buzzing as usual.
There are 2 Remembrance Day Events next week. On Friday 11 November the 11-11-11 parade will leave the Town Council Help Point at 10.50 hours and assemble at the War Memorial for a service. On Sunday 13 November the parade will depart Cyprus Road Car Park at 10.25 and arriving at the War Memorial for 11am. There is a rolling road closure in place on Church Road and we expect the town will be busy on this morning.
Please ensure that tables, chairs and A boards are not put outside on Church Road or Church Walk until the parade has passed. The march and service will be completed by 11.30am.
Update from Market Place Shopping Centre
Friday 11 November
Market Place will be holding a minute’s silence at 11am in remembrance of those who have lost their lives in conflict.
Saturday 12 November
Market Place 25th Birthday Party! Market Place is celebrating its 25th Birthday this November and are holding their 25th Birthday party between 11am-4pm. Spend over £25 in any Market Place store for your chance to win your own Birthday present!!
Burgess Hill Community Food Bank will be collecting food at the entrance to Waitrose.
Saturday 19 November
As part of the Town Centre Partnership’s Christmas Light Switch On, Market Place will play host to a variety of stall holders throughout the day. These include:
- Caroline’s Accessories
- St Catherine’s Hospice
- The Dressing Room
- Glass Follies
- Phoenix Trading (a wide variety of cards/books)
- Burgess Hill in Bloom
- Safe Haven for Donkeys
- SERV – Blood Runners
- Alan Brooks paintings
Market Place is also holding a Christmas Tree Topper Competition and the winning toppers will be presented and displayed on Christmas Trees on this day.
Saturday 26 November
Market Place will be the host of the Young Enterprise Exhibition on this day. Young entrepreneurs from across Sussex’s schools will be showcasing their new business ideas within the centre. There will also be a performance from InChoir on the balcony. Time to be confirmed.
Update from The Martlets Shopping Centre
19 November – Christmas Light Switch On
In conjunction with Burgess Hill Town Council. We will be holding a Santa’s grotto in Martlets Hall, stilt walking reindeer, food stalls, market (dressed for Christmas), Salvation Army choir and Christmas music. Main event happening on bandstand with community acts, hosted by Mid Downs radio. Church Walk will house Christmas market and ice skating.
Black Friday (25) & Cyber Monday (28) – Amazon Locker Promotion
Encouraging people to use Amazon lockers, we will promote the lockers by offering a prize for those who visit management for a code. Shoppers who spend over £30 in the centre can visit centre management for a code and those collecting a parcel on the day can collect a code. Prize will be chosen closer to the date following Christmas present trends to a value of £50 per day.
December Saturdays – Themed Christmas Cinema (TBC)
A vacant unit will be turned into a Christmas cinema showing Christmas films for free each Saturday in December.
December Sundays – Community Choirs
Each Sunday a different community choir will be in the centre singing traditional Christmas songs.
