Hickstead Hotel Event

On Wednesday morning this week we held an event at Hickstead Hotel which turned out to be excellent in a number of ways:- the venue was great, as always; the numbers attending were fantastic (fifty plus); the speaker, Mark Jackson, was very interesting.  It was a great success all round, and many thanks go to Andy, Emma and Holly at the hotel for their hard work in hosting the event.

Mark Jackson is the Business Development Manager at HPC, one of Burgess Hill’s oldest and finest businesses,  essentially an precision engineering company. Established on the new Victoria Industrial Estate in 1959 by Gawaine Baillie, an engineer and racing driver who also owned Leeds Castle in Kent, it has grown, prospered and is now flourishing still after adapting to the modern hi tech world.

The company comprises two separate divisions … a) precision engineering and b) compressed air systems, employs 220 staff and has a turnover of around £43m.  There are five sites in Burgess Hill and other manufacturing sites in Birmingham, Norwich and Nottingham. HPC has customers which include famous international companies such as Daimler, Caterpillar, Aston Martin, Varian, JCB and Kaeser Compressors.  27% of their products, including medical couch assembly parts, now go to the medical industry, and another 10% to the aerospace industry. HPC have some of the largest machines of their type in Europe, which has enabled them to manufacture items which are beyond other companies. Their air compressors and valve systems are used by companies all over the world.

After fielding a number of questions from interested people, Mark took a very large and very well deserved round of applause, before answering questions from individuals.  I believe several tours of the processing plant were arranged afterwards.

From the BHBPA, I offer a great thank you once again to Andy and his team, and also a big thanks to Mark Jackson for his terrific presentation.
