The Government backed “Green Homes Grant scheme”, which was announced in July, will be available in England only and applications for it will open at the end of September.

It is a great chance to get work done that will save you money on your heating and help to reduce CO2 emissions.

The grant scheme will offer £5,000 vouchers for improvements to your home insulation or for low carbon heating – or up to £10,000 if you, or someone in your household, is on one of a number of qualifying benefits. (see below).

For the £5,000 grant level a one third contribution is required from the home owner or landlord. While anyone receiving the maximum grant of up to £10,000 will not be required to contribute to the cost of works. Landlords are eligible up to the £5,000 limit.

There are terms and conditions including using a fully accredited installer and that the work will need to be completed by 31 March 2021.

The following insulation measures are covered by the voucher:

  • solid wall
  • under floor
  • cavity wall
  • loft
  • flat roof
  • room in roof
  • insulating a park home

Low carbon heat measures:

The following low carbon heating measures are covered by the voucher:

  • air or ground source heat pump
  • solar thermal (liquid filled flat plate or evacuated tube collectors)
  • biomass boilers

The above measures are referred to as “primary measures”. Once you have one or more of these done you are able to use any remaining grant for secondary measures which include items such as double-glazing and heating controls.

PDP Services can install solar thermal systems and both air and ground source heat pumps. We can also install a number of the available secondary measures.

Please note that two commonly requested items that are not eligible are solar PV systems and central heating boilers (other than biomass).
