| An invite to hear more about the Airport Economic Zone Interesting panels looking at the prospects for the regional economy, together with a discussion on what an industrial policy means for the Gatwick region. We also heard from the new Chief Executive of the airport: Pierre- Hugues-Schmit. This was followed by a discussion looking at how this transport gateway can unlock international growth for our region. In the afternoon there was a discussion looking at the impacts of devolution. On my table the discussion focused on how we need to maintain a consolidated and coordinated approach between all the new unitary authorities across the wider area of the South East. It was also an opportunity for me to catch up with the Economic Development team from MSDC and the leader of MSDC Cllr. Robert Eggleston. I also met with Cllr. Garry Wall, who is now leading WSCC’s Strategic Economic Growth Team, with a responsibility for skills. Burgess Hill is of strategic importance and features heavily in plans for the county. We’ve arranged to meet in the next few weeks to discuss this further. As the new unitary authority takes shape and settles into its wider role, flexing its new powers over the next two years, BHBPA has positioned itself as a sought after partner and the voice of business in Burgess Hill.
