Footgolf at MSGC

Yesterday a group of almost one hundred people were due to meet at MSGC to play a new game called FootGolf in order to raise money for our favourite charity, St Peter & St James Hospice.

The weather deteriorated during the day, much to the organiser’s distress, and by the time it came to start it had been raining for two hours and showed no sign of stopping.  We met there early to get a photo of a cheque presentation to the hospice from the BHBiz Awards Night, and by 5pm the place was thronged with footgolfers, some of them looking as though they had played this game all ther lives. Others looked as though they wouldn’t have been comfortable doing this in warm sunshine, and now they had to do it and get soaked.

The BHBPA team was away among the ealy starters, closely followed by our close rivals, Autowise. None of us had tried this before, and the distances from tee to green did not favour old biddies like me, but nevertheless it was an advantage to be able to keep it straight, and we mostly did just that. We had a comfortable round of much chat and plenty of good shots, before returning to the clubhouse for refreshment and drying off.

We had a blast with beers as we discussed times past in County League football. Richard Strange and Paul Williams talked over old times at St Francis, while I spoke to them both about past derby games we had played in for Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill and Hassocks. When several beers had been quaffed and the results were announced it was the BHBPA who were equal first with Lloyds Bank, while Autowise, with Paul and Anthony starring, were one stroke behind. Somehow on countback it went to Lloyds Bank.  The BHBPA team were a worthy second, and we had enjoyed every moment, despite the rain.

Thanks must go to the organisers and to all who made the event possible.  Let’s do it again soon.
