Fantastic Warrior Effort

Last Sunday 50 people from BHBPA member companies joined together to compete in the Warrior Run at Q Leisure. It was the brainchild of Paul Shearing, the BHBPA Chairman, that we should try to get a large turnout of young fit (and preferably crazy) people to run 7 km over uneven ground while also climbing slippery banks of mud, mudquaplaning down muddy slides, slithering in mud under rope netting and scrambling through mud filled tyres before swimming across a river of mud and then having to pull themselves out up a muddy bank.  When they reached the finish they simply had to climb over a high rope obstacle, then over an 8 ft wall and finally scale the 12 ft wall for good measure.  You will by now have noticed that there is a strong mud theme in all this, and at the end I couldn’t recognise any of the performers. Photos on this page are by Paul Noble Photographic, and a short video of the start is here.  You can see those photos, and then some more mediocre ones which I took, in the gallery on the website.

I went along to support the teams representing Autowise, Nova Direct Mail, Sutton Winson, Ridgeview, Time 24, Heights Health & Fitness and PVL, and what a marvellous sight it was to see so many fit young and middle aged people enjoying themselves by taking on a physical challenge which many of them had not perhaps not done before. From what I saw they acqitted themselves incredibly well; indeed I reckon many of them surprised themselves with what they could do when pushed in this way.  Without doubt some of them used muscles which they didn’t know they had to scale some of the obstacles, and there will have been some tired bodies around the Business Parks on Monday.

Between them they have raised a fantastic amount of money for St Peter & St James Hospice, which could even top £2000 when it is all collected in from sponsors. I feel sure that participants would like to thanks Paul Shearing and Sue Upton, of Heights for their hard work in getting together the teams. It turned out to be another great day for the people of the Burgess Hill Business Parks.  well done to all competitors.
