You will have seen, no doubt, that since they started quite recently things are moving quickly on the new developments along the south side of the A2300 between Burgess Hill and the A23.
Notwithstanding the inevitable queues of traffic forming due to building works and temporary traffic lights, the huge DPD warehousing facility has gone up very quickly and there will soon be other buildings emerging too.
At Steering Group on Tuesday this week, Mark Healy from MSDC kindly attended and shed some light on the work. The Hub is being developed by Glenbeigh Developments Ltd, and comprises 50,000sq m of private development, of which DPD has taken 4000. In all, 14,000 sqm will be for warehousing.
The Northern Arc,which is now to be developed by Homes England, as part of the several thousand new houses in adjacent plots, comprises around 13,000 sq m. Some of this land will include ‘neighbourhood centres’, comprised of mostly retail developments. Much of the rest will be available to businesses. However, Mark could give no assurances about the possibility of there being opportunities for freehold purchasing. This was the issue which caused the BHBPA to write a letter to MSDC before Christmas, asking about freehold opportunities and the possible drift away from the town of businesses wishing to expand. We cited the example of Vega, who have been looking to buy locally but unsuccessfully for at least three years now. The company is going to move to Uckfield.
