Burgess Hill Cricket Club
29 August 2017
First XI – lost at home to Bexhill II. Kev Ramsay hit 55 and Peter Billinghay 34 in Hill’s low total of 147 all out. In response Hugh Warmisham took two wickets but Bexhill cruised to victory by seven wickets. Report..
Second XI – won by three wickets at Hellingly II. Charley Hepburn and Dan Rapson took three wickets each in Hellingly’s total of 192 all out. Akeem Ifill then cracked 82 in Hill’s chase and there were contributions throughout from Alec Hepburn (17), Curly Pummell (21) and crucially at the death 14 not out from Tom McCreadie and 10 not out from Bobby Barnes as Hill got over the line in the final over.
Third XI – took eight players to Cowden and did well to keep them to 205-8 from 44 overs. Joe Hartley took three wickets, Tom Booth and Harvey Towler two each. Unfortunately batting did not go so well although Joe did score 17 and Tristan Hepburn 16 in Hill’s 49-7.
Boys Under 16 – continued their festival after losing to Eastbourne on Monday. On Tuesday they came up against Lindfield’s Harry Moorat who scored 163 not out in their total of 270. Unsurprisingly Lindfield’s total was too much to chase. On Wednesday they played East Grinstead and they struggled to an 83 run defeat. Martyn Box excelled with the bat scoring 71. Hill got off the mark with a four wicket win against Hellingly, the foundation of the win laid by the bowlers as all four took excellent figures. The week ended strongly with another victory, this time over Ansty by two wickets. Tristan Hepburn taking 3-10 in eight overs and then Martyn Box scoring another half century.
Boys Under 11 – this week the Under 11s have already played twice, unfortunately without success so far losing to Roffey and East Grinstead. There’s a chance to finish strongly however as they take on Ansty on Thursday.

President’s Day – was a great festival of cricket on a gloriously sunny Bank Holiday Sunday. The highlight being a wonderful exhibition of clean hitting from the West Indian Select XI. St John’s Park has never seen such an array of six hitting and it was a joy to watch, unless you were a Burgess Hill bowler. A huge thank you to everyone who helped on the day, running coaching sessions, taking games of cricket, umpiring, scoring, manning BBQs and running the bar. Without your help the day would not have been the success it was.
End of season BBQ – as if you didn’t already know this week is the final game of the season. Will we be celebrating a miraculous relegation escape? Maybe. Either way there is lots of bar stock to be drunk and food to be eaten so following on from the success of this weekend’s BBQ (thank you Martin and Lorraine) there will be another to cap off the season before a long long winter. Plus, there’s more, as we’ll be saying goodbye to Ben Hopkins and Dan Rapson as they both head to opposite sides of the globe. So come along for one or two drinks and a burger!
