Batting Collapse Ends Hill Title Bid

Senior cricket
1st XI – missed out by the narrowest margin on the final day losing to second placed Mayfield by just 25 runs. Having won the toss and elected to bowl the Simpson brothers ran through the Mayfield batting line up as Ian took 3-30 and Jack 5-30 in Mayfield’s 119. Hill advanced to 56-1 but collapsed to 94 all out as only Jack Simpson’s 41 defied the Mayfield bowlers. Hill ended the season in a very creditable third position only 12 points off promotion and indeed the title. Report.
2nd XI – quite incredibly finished by 1.30pm as they demolished Ansty by eight wickets in a very one sided affair. Peter Billinghay and Hugh Warmisham ran through the Ansty batting line up taking 5-8 and 5-22 respectively as Ansty could only muster 31 all out. Two wickets were lost but only 6.5 overs were needed to secure victory and a third place finish. Report.
3rd XI – were en route to a final day win over Roffey III when the rains came and the game was abandoned. Roffey had already struck 194-8 in the first innings but contributions from Paul Elphick (43), Dan Austin (37*) and Lewis Mamoany (39*) had put Hill in an excellent position at 154-3 when the game was abandoned. Hill finish the season in an excellent third place. Scorecard.
4th XI – were equally frustrated by the rain as they were abandoned needing just one more wicket for victory. Jack Cooper struck 60 as Hill set Roffey IV 151-7 declared. Ryan Jackson opened up with 3-18 and Alec Hepburn then took 4-6 to leave Roffey 96-9 when the clouds opened. Scorecard.
So all in all three third place finishes and four wins in a debut competitive season for the Fourths represents perhaps the club’s most successful collective season. To put out 44 players each week and win as many games of cricket as we did (33) is a wonderful achievement and only reflects on the hard work and commitment of all involved.

Girls Under 13 – despite defeat to Bells Yew Green by 16 runs the girls have been confirmed as League winners and progress to the County Final this Saturday morning at Horsham! In the game itself Bells Yew Green scored 131-3 and Hill fell just short on 115-2 despite retirements from Issy Cooper (16) and Kim Short (27). It wasn’t to matter however as the girls were crowned champions! Huge congratulations girls!

Presentation Evening Dinner and Dance – The annual awards dinner will be held on Saturday 15th October at Mid Sussex Golf Club commencing at 7.30 pm. Tickets will cost £30 per person and will include a 3 course sit down meal followed by dancing to the Flaming Mojos. Given the success the club has had this year the event will most likely sell out. Numbers are limited to around 90 people so book early to avoid disappointment. Please email with the names of your party/family attending so that we can reserve your places.
As well as the adult awards we will be giving out on the evening the youth batsman and bowler of the year awards and the two U16 age group awards. We would therefore like to see as many youngsters and their parents as possible attending the evening.
