NEW PUBLIC ART TRAIL
Burgess Hill Town Council, in conjunction with Mid Sussex District Council, Burgess Hill Local History Society and the Friends of Burgess Hill Green Circle Network, is creating a new art trail to enhance public enjoyment of the Green Circle Network, a series of footpaths, cycle tracks and bridleways linking green spaces around the town.
The exciting project will see five original pieces of art work commissioned to celebrate the history and growth of Burgess Hill, by recognising some of its noteworthy inhabitants and their achievements and enhance the Green Circle.
Members of the public will have an opportunity to meet the artists, see their designs and give feedback at a Public Exhibition being held on Saturday 7 January 2017, from 10am – 4pm at Market Place Shopping Centre in Burgess Hill.
The project is being funded by developer contributions and it is anticipated the artwork will be installed in autumn 2017.
Councillor Pru Moore, Deputy Leader of Burgess Hill Town Council and Chairman of the Green Circle Public Art Steering Group said: “This is a really exciting project and a rare opportunity this town has to develop art through sculpture. Public engagement will be key to this project and it will also create an opportunity for schools to engage with the artists and hopefully be inspired by their creativity and skill. It will enhance the enjoyment of the public who walk our beautiful green spaces and public areas. I would like to thank Fred Avery, Heritage Centre Curator and member of Burgess Hill Local History Society and Dominic Moore, Chairman of the Friends of the Green Circle Network for their knowledge and enthusiasm for the project.”
