The meeting of BHBPA members on Wednesday was a very pleasant and enjoyable one, hosted excellently by Mid Sussex Golf Club. It was our first visit to the club, and we were greeted with a beautiful spring day and a glass of sparkling wine.
The first presentation was by Angela Gill, the MD of Bio-Productions, who told us the story of the management buyout which led to her and Vonny and Phil taking charge of the company. All three of them have worked at the company for ten years. They specialise in manufacturing products which are used to clean toilets, and men’s toilets in particular. This is a manufacturing company in Burgess HIll who export their products to all parts of the world, including India, Australia and Korea.
Angela’s presentation was a very thorough, interesting and amusing one, and she gained a very warm and well merited round of applause for it. This in itself was quite something as it was the first time she had ever spoken in public.
The second presentation was by Blaise Tapp, the Communities Content Manager of Sussex Newspapers. He was an erudite and amusing guy, used to working for large and popular newspapers in the North west and now thoroughly enjoying working on the Mid Sussex Times and other organs of Johnston Press. After noting that he had been upstaged by a woman talking about urine, he took us through his ideas of how newspapers would survive despite falling readerships and the power of the internet and online publications. He pointed businesses toward ways in which they could make better use of the press, including looking at entering the business award show sponsored by the Mid Sussex Times, Business Matters.
Afterwards, while people stayed on to eat and drink in convivial company, there was a great warmth of feeling toward the speakers. Lots of networking seemed to be happening and there was a lovely friendly atmosphere engendered throughout.
Thanks to the Golf Club and to the speakers for all their efforts. A very good time was had by all.
