Academy Hosts Marathon

Marathon Weekend Hits New Highs
The Burgess Hill Academy once again hosted the
start of the Burgess Hill part of the Mid Sussex
Marathon when Mid Sussex was awash with runners
over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend as over
1,500 people took part in the Mid Sussex Marathon
Weekend. The event, now in its sixth year, saw the
highest ever number of entries since it began in
2012.
The 3-day Marathon Weekend covered roads, trails,
footpaths and fields in and around East Grinstead,
Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill – the three towns
of Mid Sussex. Some ran for a charity close to their
heart, while others ran to challenge themselves.
Over the 3 days Mid Sussex District Council
Chairman Cllr Peter Reed, Vice Chairman Cllr Bruce
Forbes and the three Town Mayor’s Cllr Bob
Mainstone (East Grinstead), Cllr Sujan
Wickremaratchi (Haywards Heath) and Cllr Jacqui
Landriani (Burgess Hill) presented runners with
hundreds of medals and a variety of individual and
team prizes over the three days of the event.
The brave 185 participants who ran all three races,
thus completing the full marathon distance, were
rewarded with a commemorative t-shirt and fourth
medal to join with their other three, creating a unique
medal.
