News: Burgess Hill’s Local Full Fibre Network update

Posted on 28th May 2020

Mid Sussex District Council in partnership with the Department for Digital Culture Media and Sport have identified Burgess Hill as a location to receive government funding in support of the delivery of a full fibre network.

The funding will create a “scaffold” duct and fibre access network across Burgess Hill, allowing smaller Internet Service Providers to provide easier connections to individual premises and businesses. This will include a fibre route and connection point at Sheddingdean Business Park. We are aware that Virgin Media have paused the roll-out of their Project Lightning across Burgess Hill, resulting in poor connectivity for businesses and residents. This makes it even more important to deliver the Local Full Fibre Network (LFFN) programme timely and in the right places across Burgess Hill.

The Burgess Hill fibre network is expected to be completed by April 2021, following a 9 month build programme, which is expected to commence in July 2020. Commercial services will then be available  to be delivered across the network immediately afterwards.

The network will be operated and maintained by the Council under a Cooperative model, whereby businesses and residents (individually or in clusters) will be able to purchase high capacity, ultra-fast fibre digital connectivity services, including Wifi, Ethernet and other wholesale products.  These will be offered at highly competitive market prices, by a range of organisations belonging to the Cooperative. In addition to the Mid Sussex Fibre Network, the Government also has a number of other digital initiatives that businesses can take advantage of, including Gigabit Voucher schemes.

"I am delighted to have a long-standing relationship with the BHBPA. Since its foundation the Association has gone from strength to strength and there is no doubt that it has brought huge benefits to its members and the business community as a whole through the partnerships it has formed with the local authorities, Sussex Police and local organisations. It is paramount that Burgess Hill businesses have an effective collective voice."

The Hon Nicholas Soames MP

"“We have been members of BHBPA from its inception, and seen the organisation steadily grow and expand into the dynamic entity it is today, bringing positive benefits to all its members.""

Peter Hook, Manager
(Computer Systems Engineers)

"“I can’t speak highly enough of the BHBPA. As a small local business we feel very much part of a community and thoroughly enjoy the annual exhibition and meetings throughout the year. Over the years we have built fantastic working relationships with many BHBPA members and every meeting and event offers us opportunities to work with more. This is networking at its best! ” "

Judi Arditi, Director
(Travail Employment Group)

"“I have belonged to this group since I started my own business, Lea Graham Associates, in 1986. The association has been through several incarnations since then, but its most recent one, BHBPA, is by far the best.

It’s much more than just a networking group, although it is supremely good at that too. BHBPA is inclusive and friendly and acts like a mutual-support society. The events are stimulating, worthwhile and often great fun and I believe most members share this opinion.”"

Susan Fleet, Managing Director
(Lea Graham Associates)
