News: Very positive reception for MP

Posted on 11th January 2020

Our first event of the year saw Mims Davies, the newly elected MP for Mid Sussex, join us for breakfast at the Hickstead Hotel on January 7th. BHBPA members attended in good numbers, with every seat taken.

Mims is an experienced MP having first been elected in 2010 in Eastleigh. With long standing family ties to Mid Sussex, she is very familiar with Burgess Hill. As Employment Minister within the Department of Work & Pensions her passion for issues such as equality and greater opportunity for all came across very strongly as she spoke. The recurring comments I heard from members, was how pleased they were to both meet Mims, but also to note qualities like her ‘down-to-earthness’, approachability and desire to support business associations like ours.

We look forward to forging a strong relationship with Mims over the coming months and years. And by the way, Mims is seeking to find a suitable constituency office – if you know of a premises that might suit, ideally in Burgess Hill, let me know and I will pass on the necessary contact details.

Our thanks as always to Kellie Mason, GM at the Hickstead, and her team for hosting us so warmly.

"This association was started with a lot of effort from a few local businessmen and has proved to be a very powerful and useful tool for our business. The BHBPA has influence at the top level; when action is needed, the BHBPA gets it done. We are kept in touch with all that is happening on our doorstep and will often act because of what is published in the weekly emails / newsletters."

"“I can’t speak highly enough of the BHBPA. As a small local business we feel very much part of a community and thoroughly enjoy the annual exhibition and meetings throughout the year. Over the years we have built fantastic working relationships with many BHBPA members and every meeting and event offers us opportunities to work with more. This is networking at its best! ” "

"As the local hospice for the area, it’s great that we receive so much support from the BHBPA. Last year the members raised an amazing £2150 through activities such as Bake Off and the BHBiz Awards. Each well planned members meeting enables good networking opportunities and speakers that are relevant to the present climate and local issues. We are proud to be members of BHBPA."

"The BHBPA is a fantastic hub for our business community to get together and catch up, discuss important local issues and connect new and interesting enterprises."
