Posted on 4th September 2019

Do you know a school child with a passion for maths? Work experience at accountancy firm Richard Place Dobson is the perfect opportunity!

Richard Place Dobson (RPD), is one of the leading Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors in the Sussex area and regularly works with local schools to offer pupils work experience at the firm.

RPD has been providing a wide range of services to owner managed businesses, limited companies, sole traders, and private individuals for over 100 years. The team has grown over the years and many of the staff have celebrated big work anniversaries including Managing Director Matthew Tyson, who has been with the firm for almost 32 years.

Matthew was offered the opportunity to do work experience at RPD, as the firm were so impressed with him when he contacted them for careers advice. Matthew completed work experience whilst studying at university and once he graduated, he was offered a permanent position with the company.

Matthew, and many other team members have also completed other industry qualifications supported by the company, including ACA and CTA qualifications.

Matthew Tyson, Managing Director at RPD, said: “We’re pleased to offer students this opportunity to dip their toes into the world of accountancy. I loved my time here during work experience and have continued my career here ever since!

“We provide a range of accountancy services such as auditing, bookkeeping, payroll, corporate tax planning, estate planning, probate, self-assessment, retirement strategies, as well as having a dedicated team who work with charities and not for profits. There’s so much students can learn during their time with us.”

RPD recently had a school pupil who completed work experience with them and they received this lovely feedback: “I approached Richard Place Dobson to see if they could provide work experience for a friend’s son, I would like to thank you for accommodating him.

I am delighted to feed back to you and the practice, that he had a super time. He found the experience informative and enjoyable and it gave him a very positive insight into being an accountant. He said how professionally his week had been arranged, how welcome he was made to feel, and he really felt he was able to contribute to the practice, with the work he completed. Your colleagues made it such a memorable experience for him.”

"“I have belonged to this group since I started my own business, Lea Graham Associates, in 1986. The association has been through several incarnations since then, but its most recent one, BHBPA, is by far the best.

It’s much more than just a networking group, although it is supremely good at that too. BHBPA is inclusive and friendly and acts like a mutual-support society. The events are stimulating, worthwhile and often great fun and I believe most members share this opinion.”"

Susan Fleet, Managing Director
(Lea Graham Associates)

"As MP for Mid Sussex I believe passionately in the importance of a vibrant local business community in order to create and sustain fantastic opportunities that enable people to meet their responsibilities, prosper and fulfil their potential. I am committed to collaborating with BHBPA and others to be an effective collective voice for Burgess Hill."

Mims Davies MP, Member of Parliament for Mid Sussex

"I am delighted to have a long-standing relationship with the BHBPA. Since its foundation the Association has gone from strength to strength and there is no doubt that it has brought huge benefits to its members and the business community as a whole through the partnerships it has formed with the local authorities, Sussex Police and local organisations. It is paramount that Burgess Hill businesses have an effective collective voice."

The Hon Nicholas Soames MP

"If Carlsberg did networking they would do it the BHBPA way. Each event is packed with great ideas, thought provoking presentations and fun. As a small business we feel supported and part of the community. We have built friendships and business relationships and there is always plenty of advice on hand to benefit us all so don’t hesitate to join whatever the nature of your business. "
