Burgess Hill homecoming concert with Nick Pritchard a triumph – over £1000 raised

Last Saturday’s homecoming concert for one of the emerging opera stars in the UK, tenor Nick Pritchard was a huge success.  The 120 seater venue at St Edwards Church was packed with fans from the town, his old singing teacher, Prue Moore, Leader of Burgess Hill Town Council and Councillor Anne Jones MBE. Burgess Hill Concerts next featured artist Susan Fleet was also in the audience along with two opera fans who had travelled from Essen in Germany to see Nick Pritchard perform.

The event raised over £1000 for charity – including 10% of ticket sales going to ‘Growing with Calm’ – a local charity supporting offering therapy and self-help strategies for vulnerable children.

Burgess Hill born Nick Pritchard sang a selection from Schubert, Vaughan-Williams, Roger Quilter, Benjamin Britten and finished with moving renditions of ‘Maria’, Music of the Night’ and ‘Bring Him Home’.

This was the first of a series of four concerts this year featuring gifted and home grown musicians across the musical spectrum.  His accompanist Ian Tindale delivered a brilliant performance and played two solos to popular acclaim.

The pre-concert suppers, wine sales on the evening and programme sales all contributed to the excellent total – all the proceeds will contribute to the work of ‘Growing with Calm’ and St Edwards’ work in the local community including the running of the volunteer-run Mustard Seed Cafe that provides subsidised meals and snacks  Thursdays to Saturdays each week.

Nick Pritchard commented, ”It was a bit like ‘This is Your Life’ Saturday night with my family, singing teacher and members of St Edwards where I was a choir boy and organist all in the hall! I am delighted to be able to support an important local charity that does fantastic work with disadvantaged children”.

Burgess Hill-based Lea Graham PR Agency owner, Chair of the Burgess Hill Business Parks Association and accomplished soprano Susan Fleet will be the featured artist at the next Burgess Hill Concert on Saturday 1st June – the first concert in the Burgess Hill Festival programme.

Local Vehicle graphics and design company Preview sponsored the event. Thanks also to Burgess Hill Radio for its support.

"The BHBPA is the most effective and dynamic business organisation I have ever worked with in over 30 years in Local Government. It has a very active and large membership whose points of view are taken seriously by all government structures. Peter Liddell does an excellent job in providing unique and enjoyable networking opportunities where members interact and discuss points of mutual interest. It provides a forum for businesses to discuss common issues, to share experiences and to play a powerful and meaningful role in the Burgess Hill community. The BHBPA provides important and credible support for all its members and ensures that their best interests are represented where necessary. "

"“Sutton Winson have been members of the BHBPA for around 7 years. We have found it a great way to keep in touch with Burgess Hill businesses and to meet with likeminded people. It’s not just another “networking” group, as it tackles the real issues and gets things done”"

Bruce Millington, Manager
(Sutton Winson Ltd)

"“I can’t speak highly enough of the BHBPA. As a small local business we feel very much part of a community and thoroughly enjoy the annual exhibition and meetings throughout the year. Over the years we have built fantastic working relationships with many BHBPA members and every meeting and event offers us opportunities to work with more. This is networking at its best! ” "
