Mike Oliver Associates races in to sponsor Cyclo-Cross National Trophy
Sussex IFA Mike Oliver Associates and affiliated company Oliver Standing Construction Limited have been named as official sponsors for this month’s HSBC UK Cyclo-Cross National Trophy Round 3.
The firms, which have a long history of supporting local sporting events, will lend their support to this challenging event, which is being hosted by Crawley Wheelers at the South of England Showground, Ardingly on 10 and 11 November 2018.
The HSBC UK Cyclo-Cross National Trophy Round 3 is part of Britain’s premier cyclo-cross series. In 2018-19 the 6 round series runs from October to January at venues throughout Britain and attracts top riders from Britain and further afield. Entry is online only via the British Cycling website, there are no paper entries or entries on the day, and entrants must have British Cycling membership and a full racing licence.
Cyclo-cross is a type of bicycle racing, which typically takes place in the autumn and winter. Internationally the season is October – February. It consists of many laps of a short course, usually combining a mix of pavements, wooded trails, grass, steep hills and obstacles. Riders might need to quickly dismount and carry their bikes on some parts of the course. The emphasis is on riders’ stamina, endurance and bike-handling skills.
Mike Oliver Associates and Oliver Standing Construction Limited will be lending their names to a series of promotional material including a fun piece of kit, namely the cow bell. Anyone that’s ever watched ski races on TV will recognise the atmospheric sound cow bells create. Bells have been used in downhill skiing for a long time, originating in Switzerland, where they would be made good use of by skiing farmers, while the cows were tucked up in barns and didn’t need their bells. It seems the Sussex countryside will be alive with the sound of cow bells this November!
The Sussex location is a first for the event and along with live music, great food and drink, a shopping village and free entry for spectators; it should make for a great day out.
Principal, Mike Oliver, himself a cycling enthusiast, will be attending the event with several members of his team. About the sponsorship he said, “We are thrilled to be supporting this exhilarating event, which attracts top riders. Although there is a local culture for this hybrid of mountain biking and road racing, it’s currently a lesser known sport and it’s brilliant to be able to contribute to raising its profile.”

"I am delighted to have a long-standing relationship with the BHBPA. Since its foundation the Association has gone from strength to strength and there is no doubt that it has brought huge benefits to its members and the business community as a whole through the partnerships it has formed with the local authorities, Sussex Police and local organisations. It is paramount that Burgess Hill businesses have an effective collective voice."
"“I can’t speak highly enough of the BHBPA. As a small local business we feel very much part of a community and thoroughly enjoy the annual exhibition and meetings throughout the year. Over the years we have built fantastic working relationships with many BHBPA members and every meeting and event offers us opportunities to work with more. This is networking at its best! ” "
"If Carlsberg did networking they would do it the BHBPA way. Each event is packed with great ideas, thought provoking presentations and fun. As a small business we feel supported and part of the community. We have built friendships and business relationships and there is always plenty of advice on hand to benefit us all so don’t hesitate to join whatever the nature of your business. "
"“Sutton Winson have been members of the BHBPA for around 7 years. We have found it a great way to keep in touch with Burgess Hill businesses and to meet with likeminded people. It’s not just another “networking” group, as it tackles the real issues and gets things done”"
