Earlier this week we held our latest event at Buxted Park Hotel, where around 28 members and friends gathered for a 5pm start. Teas and coffees were on offer as people arrived and most found someone they recognised or knew from a previous meeting and the conversations began in earnest.
The presentation was given by Barbara Hill, an expert on Change Management, who works mostly in and around Cologne, Germany, but also puts in time living in Hove. She is of course well used to the flights of Easy Jet and Ryanair. Barbara is a very capable academic, with a Masters Degree from Edinburgh and a CV which includes working in management roles for some large companies including Roche Diagnostics. She talked about the process of change in companies, and about the possible effects on various staff; about how important it is to take staff with you on the journey of change and how communication is one of the key elements in making change effective.
It was an interesting presentation, especially as all companies have to direct change at various times, and as the current digital age necessitates change on a seemingly permanent regular basis. There was some interesting discussion around the subject during questions at the end.
The hotel is a lovely setting and Stephanie, the Sales Manager with whom I fixed up the event, was very helpful and accommodating. You can meet her if you come along to the November event at Ockenden Manor.
For me, as always, it was a great chance to meet up again with old friends such as Shirley Price, Rob Morris, Andrew Hookway, Paula Tomlinson and Wayne Channon, who don’t get to events as often as perhaps they/we would like, and to get an update about their businesses.
Our thanks go to Stephanie and to Barbara for playing their vital parts in the organisation and delivery of the event.
"I am delighted to have a long-standing relationship with the BHBPA. Since its foundation the Association has gone from strength to strength and there is no doubt that it has brought huge benefits to its members and the business community as a whole through the partnerships it has formed with the local authorities, Sussex Police and local organisations. It is paramount that Burgess Hill businesses have an effective collective voice."
"“I can’t speak highly enough of the BHBPA. As a small local business we feel very much part of a community and thoroughly enjoy the annual exhibition and meetings throughout the year. Over the years we have built fantastic working relationships with many BHBPA members and every meeting and event offers us opportunities to work with more. This is networking at its best! ” "
"“Sutton Winson have been members of the BHBPA for around 7 years. We have found it a great way to keep in touch with Burgess Hill businesses and to meet with likeminded people. It’s not just another “networking” group, as it tackles the real issues and gets things done”"
"The BHBPA is the most effective and dynamic business organisation I have ever worked with in over 30 years in Local Government. It has a very active and large membership whose points of view are taken seriously by all government structures. Peter Liddell does an excellent job in providing unique and enjoyable networking opportunities where members interact and discuss points of mutual interest. It provides a forum for businesses to discuss common issues, to share experiences and to play a powerful and meaningful role in the Burgess Hill community. The BHBPA provides important and credible support for all its members and ensures that their best interests are represented where necessary. "
