News: MSVA at Work

Posted on 3rd October 2018

Mid Sussex Voluntary Action (MSVA) is an independent charity that helps other charities and community groups. We do this in a number of ways:

  • Providing advice information and support  on every aspect of voluntary and  community life ensuring that local groups, clubs and charities have all they need to start up, develop and grow. This could include advice on the right legal structure, finding funding, writing a business plan and  ensuring that the right policies are in place.
  •  Running network meetings and forums bringing together local voluntary organisations and community groups and  encouraging them to put forward their views on local and national policies and decisions.
  • Running training courses on a range of relevant topics such as First Aid at Work, Good Governance, Effective Volunteer Management, Safeguarding Children and/or Vulnerable Adults, Data Protection, Food Hygiene.
  •  Providing a volunteering service that  matches individuals and teams who want to volunteer with organisations that need their time and skills, as well as good practice guidance and training for recruiting, managing and supporting volunteers.
  • Promoting Corporate Social Responsibility so that businesses and community groups can work together to make the community a better place to live and work.
  • Providing a  of fully equipped community room seating up to 18 boardroom style and 40 theatre style available in our Admin Hub in Burgess Hill.

We currently have over  300 member groups including small volunteer led clubs and organisations, sports clubs, youth groups,  conservation groups, disability groups  and larger national charities.  This reflects the diversity of  the community and voluntary sector in Mid Sussex.

Sue Edgson, the Manager of MSVA,  says   “Working at MSVA is always interesting as there is always something new that you learn about the community. People are so kind and generous with their time and it is great to be able to support such a range of charities  and groups that are doing fantastic work in Mid Sussex.”
