Dear Sir or Madam,
Installing new electric vehicle (EV) charge points at key community locations in Mid Sussex has been highlighted as a flagship activity for the Mid Sussex District Council in 2018/19 and the council is committed to working in partnership with the wider community to achieve these aims.
We are contacting you and other local businesses for two reasons:
1. To inform you of funding opportunities that are currently available to support the uptake of EV charge points. 2. To invite you to take part in a short survey about your current and future EV needs.
This survey should only take a few minutes to complete but will provide us with important evidence to inform future EV policies of the Council.
Please follow the link below to complete the survey and read on to find out more about EV charge points.
How could EV charge points benefit your business?
In general terms, having a charge point at the workplace will become increasingly important as a facility for employees and visitors, while for businesses with an EV fleet it can be an essential operating factor. For employees, charging at work can be a convenient way to recharge an EV whilst parked during the day. For retailers, the extended charge time, when compared to a traditional petrol or diesel refill, offers enhanced retail revenue potential. More specifically, the benefits of securing funding for charge points now include:
Your employees can save nearly £1,000 a year in fuel costs. You can offer electric vehicle charging to your visitors. You can reduce employee benefit in kind tax by up to 86% for company cars. A green fleet can help reduce CO2 emissions and reach sustainability goals.
What funding can you access for EV charge points?
Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) The WCS is a government scheme which provides a grant for businesses to reduce the cost of having an EV charge point installed at their premises. The grant allows businesses, charities, and local authorities to claim 75% of the total cost of installation, up to a maximum of £500 per socket installed, and with a maximum of 20 sockets across all sites for each applicant. Firms based in the United Kingdom (exc. Channel Islands and Isle of Man) can claim and don’t necessarily need a plug-in vehicle on the company’s books to start with.

Utilise Plus Eligible small and medium sized enterprises can apply for grants of between £1,000 and £5,000 to cover up to one-third of the cost of energy efficiency projects. To qualify, the organisation will need to explain how their project demonstrates best practice, versus standard replacements, and therefore achieves maximum greenhouse gas emissions reductions.

All of these funding streams are limited, so we would encourage you to make the most of these incentives while they are available.

"Regular, well organised events, excellent updates and information by email along with a warm welcome from the Chair and Coordinator are just some of the positives at BHBPA."
"The BHBPA is the most effective and dynamic business organisation I have ever worked with in over 30 years in Local Government. It has a very active and large membership whose points of view are taken seriously by all government structures. Peter Liddell does an excellent job in providing unique and enjoyable networking opportunities where members interact and discuss points of mutual interest. It provides a forum for businesses to discuss common issues, to share experiences and to play a powerful and meaningful role in the Burgess Hill community. The BHBPA provides important and credible support for all its members and ensures that their best interests are represented where necessary. "
"As the local hospice for the area, it’s great that we receive so much support from the BHBPA. Last year the members raised an amazing £2150 through activities such as Bake Off and the BHBiz Awards. Each well planned members meeting enables good networking opportunities and speakers that are relevant to the present climate and local issues. We are proud to be members of BHBPA."
"“We have been members of BHBPA from its inception, and seen the organisation steadily grow and expand into the dynamic entity it is today, bringing positive benefits to all its members.""
