News: Aneela Wins Gold Medal

Aneela Wins Gold at British Powerlifting Finals & Qualifies for World Champs!

“‘To achieve what you have never achieved, you must do what you have never done.’ I’ve recited this mantra daily since the start of the year”, Aneela says.

She continues, “I’m in my 40s, I have a small physique and I am a female competing in an intimidating industry dominated by very strong men! So many challenges to overcome. I’ve wanted to prove to myself that with the right mindset and right support around me, I can achieve my goal of representing my country in Sport. My trainers are both British and World Champions and I’m lucky to be training with them.

It’s not easy. Juggling an agency, managing a team, being mum and wife whilst getting up at silly-o-clock to train before work, whilst ensuring every mouthful of food is weighed and liquid is measured (drinking 5L of water a day!), weighing myself twice a day and trying to get a good 8 to 10 hours sleep – it’s not for the feint-hearted!

Was it worth it?! Every single second of it, yes! Winning first place in my category is surreal. I lifted a total of 242.5kg, a PB of 85kg in squat with my bodyweight of 52.9kg is exceptional. My score has qualified me for the World Championships in Manchester, in August. I’m resting this week and today I’ve already eaten 2 cheeseburgers, Lindt chocolate and gooey pastries! Back training on Sunday, 12 weeks out for the Worlds, where I hope to break a few records!”

Testimonials

"As MP for Mid Sussex I believe passionately in the importance of a vibrant local business community in order to create and sustain fantastic opportunities that enable people to meet their responsibilities, prosper and fulfil their potential. I am committed to collaborating with BHBPA and others to be an effective collective voice for Burgess Hill."

Mims Davies MP, Member of Parliament for Mid Sussex

"“I have belonged to this group since I started my own business, Lea Graham Associates, in 1986. The association has been through several incarnations since then, but its most recent one, BHBPA, is by far the best.

It’s much more than just a networking group, although it is supremely good at that too. BHBPA is inclusive and friendly and acts like a mutual-support society. The events are stimulating, worthwhile and often great fun and I believe most members share this opinion.”"

Susan Fleet, Managing Director
(Lea Graham Associates)

"The BHBPA is an energetic and vocal organisation that connects and empowers and informs the local business community acting as an effective conduit to local authority and other organisations. We are proud to be part of that community and the association."

Nick Broom, Managing Director
(PVL UK Ltd)

"As the local hospice for the area, it’s great that we receive so much support from the BHBPA. Last year the members raised an amazing £2150 through activities such as Bake Off and the BHBiz Awards. Each well planned members meeting enables good networking opportunities and speakers that are relevant to the present climate and local issues. We are proud to be members of BHBPA."
