Burgess Hill brokers acquire Horsham-based Slade Edwards Insurance
Independent Burgess Hill-based brokers and underwriters, Bennett Christmas is merging with Horsham-based Slade Edwards Insurance Brokers as part of its on-going expansion.
The deal comes as Slade Edwards celebrates four decades in Horsham. The existing members of Slade Edwards’s staff will join the Bennett Christmas team from September. They include Slade Edwards’s directors, Julia Crow, who will become Operations Manager, Anthony Birch, who will oversee risk management, and Nigel Slaughter, who will become an Associate Director. Both Bennett Christmas and Slade Edwards are members of the Broker Network.
“We’re delighted to welcome Slade Edwards, a well-respected company in the Sussex community, into the Bennett Christmas family. Their team shares our commitment and passion for personalised, local and face-to-face service,” said Mark Bennett, CEO. “They are also one of the leading players in the market for ice cream and catering van insurance which brings a unique offering to our product range. Their specialist risk management division also allows us to expand our service offering. This acquisition complements Bennett Christmas’s business plan of being a provider of niche products within its underwriting arm.”
Slade Edwards’s Managing Director, Anthony Birch added: “We are pleased to place our long established business in independent, local hands. Our aligned processes and procedures will ensure that our customers continue to receive the high levels of service they’re used to and benefit from the broader service offering that our combined businesses will provide.”
Charles Edwards, founder of Slade Edwards, said: “I have known Mark Bennett of Bennett Christmas for more than 20 years and we have enjoyed a good business and personal relationship with the firm. Mark, David, Roger and their colleagues share the same ethical approach as Slade Edwards and l believe that we could not have chosen a better company to amalgamate with.”

Since its foundation the Association has gone from strength to strength and there is no doubt that it has brought huge benefits to its members and the business community as a whole through the partnerships it has formed with the local authorities, Sussex Police and local organisations. It is paramount that Burgess Hill businesses have an effective collective voice."
