First XI – Hill beat Haywards Heath in the first round of the Gray-Nicholls T20 Cup. Following a Kevin Ramsay half century Hill set 123-5 from their 20 overs. Heath were in the game until the last when a Joe Maskell (pictured) hatrick won the game for Hill in the final over. Report.
Second XI – lost to Ifield II in the preliminary round of the Gray-Nicholls T20 Cup. Hill bowled first and despite an excellent start from Bobby Barnes (4-19) couldn’t prevent Ifield setting a decent 140-7. In response Hill ended 103-9, Akeem Ifill top scoring with 24. Report.
Ladies XI – ran out comfortable winners against Hurstpierpoint at the weekend. Batting first Charlotte Bates 51 not out helped Hill to 147-7. Hurst could only muster 64 all out as Katie Read took 3-5. Report.
Third & Fourth XI – parents wanted! Have you played cricket before or even fancy giving it a go? We are always looking for additional support for our younger members playing in adult cricket and should you like to play with your son or daughter in any of their weekend games please don’t be afraid to get in contact with the team captain. Boys Under 13 – won by 46 runs over Southwick on Thursday. Jack Smart and Tristan Hepburn both retired 25 not out as Hill set 83-4. James Rose then struck three times in just two overs to help Hill to a comfortable victory. Report.
Boys Under 12 – sadly could not beat the weather as the rain got the better of them and Newick on Monday night.

Volunteers – As our club develops and grows, we need more people to volunteer and ease the burden on the relatively few people who make our club what it is. Parents can help their child’s youth team manager by scoring, umpiring, preparing teas, getting the kit out before a game and putting it away afterwards, writing a report for the website and newsletter. These tasks should not fall on the shoulders of the managers who already do so much. We understand people cannot make every game but if you can help some of the time, please do volunteer. If you are not sure how to umpire or score we will put on some courses for anyone who is interested. Any one of the parents attending their youth match can take responsibility for submitting a short match report for us to put online – scores, individual highlights and positive is all that is needed. Please volunteer where you can and thanks in advance. With the new website and newsletter format our aim is to have a match report for every game that involves a BHCC team.
Under 9s – On that note we still require a manager for our U9s boys team this season. The responsibilities are to select the team, communicate with parents and arrange travel to the away games. Cricket experience is not necessary as we have plenty of coaches in the club to support the children. We have some 23 boys who are eligible to play in this age group and we are at risk of not being able to give them games of cricket on Sunday mornings unless a parent or two comes forward.
Housekeeping – As it is the start of the season we thought we would take the opportunity to remind everyone of each team’s responsibilities following completion of a game. It would be great if we could all take responsibility for checking these things and it did not fall to the team manager or captain. Your help with this is really appreciated.
– the main area of the pavilion must be clear in readiness for use by the Play Group during the week. We, understandably, get complaints from them and/or the Council if we don’t do this.
– there are 4 round aluminium tables that stack and can be stored opposite the bar.
– the black plastic chairs are the Council’s and these can be stacked close to the kitchen.
– the beige metal patio chairs and the green plastic chairs must be stored in the old score box not in the pavilion.
– the round wooden, the plastic and the remaining aluminium tables, the blue & maroon patio chairs should be stored in the showers in the back changing room – if put away properly they fit comfortably! The Playgroup use this room to hang children’s coats up, so again it is important that we put all of our equipment away in the shower area.
– please leave the kitchen as you would expect to find it. This year we have stocked up on tea, coffee, sugar, juice, cleaning materials, tea towels, kitchen towel, soap, black sacks etc. If something runs out please let us know and we will replace it. If tea towels are dirty please wash them and bring them back next week.
– finally before leaving please ensure that all doors in the pavilion are locked, including the old score box and the changing rooms. All doors double lock to increase security.
b) Store Room
– please ensure that these doors are also locked after each fixture. Already this season somebody has had to go out late at night and lock this area as the door was left wide open.
– this lock also double locks for security so please ensure it is double locked.
– the padlock key to the nets is stored at the back of this room. When unlocking the nets please return the nets key to its storage point straight away. The locks for the nets can be closed by hand at the end of a session so the key is not needed. Please do not attach the key to the net gates as again we have had to go out and retrieve the key off the nets very late one evening.
– please store all coaching and training equipment in the store cupboard at the back of the room rather than just dumping it inside the main door. Firstly it could get wet if that area floods (it does regularly when we have heavy rain) and secondly it has to be moved in order to get the bowling machine, catching cradle and rope out for use. We have plenty of storage at the back for our training equipment and many people spent several hours at the start of the season sorting this area so that we could store everything properly.
– please ensure that the cardboard box containing the bowling machine is placed off the ground, on the bowling machine stand, as again it will be ruined if the area floods.
Thank you in advance for helping us to keep the club’s equipment secure. This equipment cost comfortably in excess of £10,000 so, although insured, it could be very expensive to replace if it ‘disappeared’ through a door being left unlocked.
