New face of the future at Bennett Christmas
With thousands of professional social networking posts, not to mention a company-wide rebranding under his belt and now a groundbreaking app in the offing, Liam Benson is proof that apprenticeships can be the start of a brilliant career.
The first apprentice to be taken on by Mid-Sussex Insurance Brokers Bennett Christmas, 20-year-old Liam has just planted his feet permanently under the desk as marketing assistant in the company’s Burgess Hill HQ.
Having completed a Level 3 Diploma in Creative and Digital Marketing through work-based training specialists Creative Process, Liam now takes on full-time, in-house responsibility for social media, design and event handling across the company’s retail and wholesale divisions.
“I was really keen to get on with the job and the beauty of this kind of training is that you can do it at the pace that suits you,” says Liam, who gained his certificate three months ahead of schedule.
But the learning – and the fun – doesn’t end there.
“There’s so much more of social media to explore. I want to take it to another level,” says Liam, who is planning to add a host of online courses to his CV, including Hootsuite accreditation.
He’s been encouraged by the company’s commitment to professional development and a board open to hearing fresh ideas.
A member of the brokers newly formed Futures Group, set up by management to encourage staff under 25 to think outside of the box, Liam is already busy working on a Bennett Christmas mobile app.
He is reminded every day of how far he’s come over the past nine months.
“The company has seen a rise in the number of enquiries as a result of us finding new ways to communicate with customers and clients. It’s good to see a return on investment on me personally and to know I’m making a difference makes me very proud,” says Liam.
“It’s great to see my creative work come to life, too. Every time I arrive at work I see the newly rebranded Bennett Christmas Insurance and BC Underwriting signs and realise they probably wouldn’t be up there if I wasn’t here!”
"“Sutton Winson have been members of the BHBPA for around 7 years. We have found it a great way to keep in touch with Burgess Hill businesses and to meet with likeminded people. It’s not just another “networking” group, as it tackles the real issues and gets things done”"
"This association was started with a lot of effort from a few local businessmen and has proved to be a very powerful and useful tool for our business. The BHBPA has influence at the top level; when action is needed, the BHBPA gets it done. We are kept in touch with all that is happening on our doorstep and will often act because of what is published in the weekly emails / newsletters."
"“We have been members of BHBPA from its inception, and seen the organisation steadily grow and expand into the dynamic entity it is today, bringing positive benefits to all its members.""
"If Carlsberg did networking they would do it the BHBPA way. Each event is packed with great ideas, thought provoking presentations and fun. As a small business we feel supported and part of the community. We have built friendships and business relationships and there is always plenty of advice on hand to benefit us all so don’t hesitate to join whatever the nature of your business. "
