News: Clint Favours Trump

Posted on 5th August 2016

Clint Eastwood, the famously outspoken Republican Hollywood star, doesn’t like what he sees across the political landscape and isn’t thrilled with the two choices Americans have for president. “We’re in a sad time in history,” he said in a new interview with Esquire magazine.

Rather than Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, the Academy Award-winning director envisions another option. And in one of the less controversial statements in an interview full of such statements, the famously gruff Eastwood explains that his ideal candidate is the subject of his new movie “Sully.”

Yes, “Sully” is based on the story of Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, the US Airways pilot from Danville who performed the “Miracle on the Hudson” in 2009, successfully landing his disabled plane on the Hudson River and saving the lives of all passengers and crew on board.

Eastwood’s film, starring Tom Hanks as Sullenberger, is due out September 9.

As Esquire magazine noted, with “Sully,” Eastwood explores the story of one person who stands up for his principles against people who want to take him down.

The 86-year-old director tells Esquire that we live in times where leaders lack that kind of integrity. “It’s a madhouse out there,” he said. “You wonder, what the hell?”

And then comes his endorsement for who should be the next leader of the free world: “Sully should be running for president, not these people,” he said.

With regard to “these people,” Eastwood had more controversial things to say, notably in what observers see as his defense of Trump’s racism.

Eastwood acknowledges that the bombastic GOP candidate says ” a lot of dumb things.” That includes comments about federal Judge Gonzalo Curiel that Eastwood says are “racist.” However, Eastwood, in some ways, views that label as a sign of the overt political correctness that is turning America into the “p—- generation.”

Eastwood said he understands some of where Trump and his supporters are coming from.

“What Trump is onto is he’s just saying what’s on his mind,” he said. “And sometimes it’s not so good. And sometimes it’s … I mean, I can understand where he’s coming from, but I don’t always agree with it.”

Eastwood emphasizes that he’s not endorsing Trump, but he’s definitely not learning towards Clinton. That’s because he believes Clinton is likely to follow in the footsteps of President Obama.

Eastwood’s antipathy for the president, remember, inspired his infamous talk to an empty chair — apparently standing in for the president — at the 2012 Republican National Convention.

Continuing to criticize Clinton, Eastwood said, “There’s been just too much funny business on both sides of the aisle. She’s made a lot of dough out of being a politician.”

If it comes down to a choice between Trump and Hillary Clinton, Eastwood is clear, saying, “I’d go with Trump.”

"“I have belonged to this group since I started my own business, Lea Graham Associates, in 1986. The association has been through several incarnations since then, but its most recent one, BHBPA, is by far the best.

It’s much more than just a networking group, although it is supremely good at that too. BHBPA is inclusive and friendly and acts like a mutual-support society. The events are stimulating, worthwhile and often great fun and I believe most members share this opinion.”"
