News: Change to Academy for Oakmeeds

Posted on 21st July 2016

As students head off for their summer break, work at Oakmeeds Community College is gaining momentum in preparation for the change to academy status in September.
As part of the University of Brighton Academies Trust, the academy will build on recent developments – including the appointment of Jon Francies as interim Principal – to create an exceptional school focused on inspiring, motivating and enthusing the young people of Burgess Hill to meet their potential.
In the last week of term, seven students received a ‘golden ticket’ to dine with a friend in the school café in recognition of their innovative ideas and enthusiastic contributions into the design of a new logo. The logo – which will incorporate stars, an oak leaf and acorn motif – reflects the school’s history at its 30-acre site and the aspirations for its future success.
In addition to the new logo, feedback from staff, parents and students identified The Burgess Hill Academy as the preferred new name for the school.
Jon Francies, interim Principal said “We are entering an exciting phase and I believe introducing a new name from September will signify a fresh start. Working with the dedicated staff team and trust colleagues, I will be focused on continuous improvement to deliver the highest quality education to create a local school for the community of Burgess Hill to be proud of.”
On their return in September, students will start to see the results of a programme of remedial building work and investment in IT to support teaching and learning. In the midst of many changes, parents are assured that there will be no requirement to replace uniform that includes the current Oakmeeds logo.

Testimonials

"“I can’t speak highly enough of the BHBPA. As a small local business we feel very much part of a community and thoroughly enjoy the annual exhibition and meetings throughout the year. Over the years we have built fantastic working relationships with many BHBPA members and every meeting and event offers us opportunities to work with more. This is networking at its best! ” "

"“Sutton Winson have been members of the BHBPA for around 7 years. We have found it a great way to keep in touch with Burgess Hill businesses and to meet with likeminded people. It’s not just another “networking” group, as it tackles the real issues and gets things done”"

Bruce Millington, Manager
(Sutton Winson Ltd)

"The BHBPA is an energetic and vocal organisation that connects and empowers and informs the local business community acting as an effective conduit to local authority and other organisations. We are proud to be part of that community and the association."

Nick Broom, Managing Director
(PVL UK Ltd)

"The BHBPA is the most effective and dynamic business organisation I have ever worked with in over 30 years in Local Government. It has a very active and large membership whose points of view are taken seriously by all government structures. Peter Liddell does an excellent job in providing unique and enjoyable networking opportunities where members interact and discuss points of mutual interest. It provides a forum for businesses to discuss common issues, to share experiences and to play a powerful and meaningful role in the Burgess Hill community. The BHBPA provides important and credible support for all its members and ensures that their best interests are represented where necessary. "
