The June meeting of BHBPA Members was held on Tuesday this week at Porsche Mid Sussex. On a typically blustery English summer day, with temperatures soaring towards 17C, I arrived in their car park to see a couple of guys moving beautiful, sleek automobiles out to allow more space for guests like me to replace with ordinary older vehicles. Andrew Crabb greeted us all on arrival and we wandered the showrooms drawn inevitably to look closer at the magnificent machines displayed before us. There were Cayennes, Caymans, Panameras and Boxters in all their glory, although on closer inspection the prices did look a tad prohibitive.
Andrew introduced Johannes Riedel, the Products Operations Manager, who had come from Head Office to speak to us about the ways in which Porsches have now become possible as a not-too-expensive car for a business person. He explained the financial advantages of the modern Porsche product and highlighted in particular the benefits of the hybrid examples, some of which might produce as many as 90 miles to the gallon. Examples used applied especially to the Cayenne and the Panamera. In fact, I spoke later to several members who took out a car to drive and they spoke very highly of the smoothness of the cars, both in electric and petrol mode. For me the amazing thing was that Johannes gave such a sophisticated technical presentation entirely fluently in English, which is not his first language as you may have suspected.
As people disappeared to go for their drive in a car of their choice, so the rest of us got on with the business of networking and chatting over delicious nibbles and drinks. ( I think around 15 people went out for a drive. It was heartening to see how many of the or so who came along already knew some other guests and thus fitted seamlessly into the group. One new member Elaine Hughes, of Sweetness Cleaning, told me afterwards that it was her first event and it was indeed a very friendly group and a very special vibe that we have going for us. So well done to you all! I even had people still complimenting us on the great atmosphere at the exhibition 6 weeks ago.
Thanks to Andy Crabb and his team at Porsche Mid Sussex, who could not have been more accommodating. They were fantastic. And thanks to all those members who came along to support the event. There are some pics on the website gallery.
"This association was started with a lot of effort from a few local businessmen and has proved to be a very powerful and useful tool for our business. The BHBPA has influence at the top level; when action is needed, the BHBPA gets it done. We are kept in touch with all that is happening on our doorstep and will often act because of what is published in the weekly emails / newsletters."
"“I can’t speak highly enough of the BHBPA. As a small local business we feel very much part of a community and thoroughly enjoy the annual exhibition and meetings throughout the year. Over the years we have built fantastic working relationships with many BHBPA members and every meeting and event offers us opportunities to work with more. This is networking at its best! ” "
"The BHBPA is an energetic and vocal organisation that connects and empowers and informs the local business community acting as an effective conduit to local authority and other organisations. We are proud to be part of that community and the association."
"“I have belonged to this group since I started my own business, Lea Graham Associates, in 1986. The association has been through several incarnations since then, but its most recent one, BHBPA, is by far the best.
It’s much more than just a networking group, although it is supremely good at that too. BHBPA is inclusive and friendly and acts like a mutual-support society. The events are stimulating, worthwhile and often great fun and I believe most members share this opinion.”"
