BC Underwriting expands PI team
BC Underwriting, part of the fast-growing BC insurance group based in Burgess Hill, West Sussex, is delighted to welcome Louise Redmond to its professional indemnity team.
Louise has more than 15 years of professional indemnity (PI) underwriting experience and a wealth of industry knowledge, gained previously with Axa, QBE and AIG.
She joins the team as a Senior PI Underwriter, responsible for managing and running the PI binding authorities.
BC Underwriting, set up three years ago, aims to achieve £5m PI gross written premium (GWP) in the next 18 months by targeting small and medium businesses with imaginative products, service and commission levels that allow it to compete with major players in the market.
Louise said: ‘I am delighted to have joined BC Underwriting at such a key stage in their development. They have got off to a terrific start and going forward I can see lots of exciting new opportunities to grow our book.
“New exclusive binder arrangements are in the pipeline to complement our existing facilities as well as access to other well-known markets, including Lloyds. We want to create a fantastic proposition to offer our brokers and I am looking to work closely with our panel insurers to ensure it happens and bring new ones on board as we see fit.
“We are very much an underwriting agency with empowerment to write Professional Indemnity business on behalf of our insurers and this, of course, means our brokers will receive a quick turnaround on submissions sent to us, whether it be a book transfer, transactional business or those difficult-to-place risks where the broker needs their hand holding and some expert guidance.’
Louise, who is based in Leeds and will be developing broker relationships in her region, joins the existing PI team of Tom Stripp (MD) Jeremy Anderson (Head of PI) and Mark Gibbs (PI Account Handler), who have worked tirelessly to get the book where it is today.
Tom Stripp, MD of BC Underwriting says: ‘Louise is the perfect addition to the team and her experience and track record made the hire a no-brainer. PI is still a niche product, which requires highly experienced individuals to ensure a well-run, serviced and profitable book and this wouldn’t be possible without a dedicated and experienced underwriter. Louise’s professionalism and dedication is key to our growth and sustainability.’
In her spare time, Louise, who is married with a young daughter, is actively involved in Learning Partnerships, an Leeds-based education and training trust that works with children, young people and adults with additional needs.
"This association was started with a lot of effort from a few local businessmen and has proved to be a very powerful and useful tool for our business. The BHBPA has influence at the top level; when action is needed, the BHBPA gets it done. We are kept in touch with all that is happening on our doorstep and will often act because of what is published in the weekly emails / newsletters."
"As MP for Mid Sussex I believe passionately in the importance of a vibrant local business community in order to create and sustain fantastic opportunities that enable people to meet their responsibilities, prosper and fulfil their potential. I am committed to collaborating with BHBPA and others to be an effective collective voice for Burgess Hill."
"“I have belonged to this group since I started my own business, Lea Graham Associates, in 1986. The association has been through several incarnations since then, but its most recent one, BHBPA, is by far the best.
It’s much more than just a networking group, although it is supremely good at that too. BHBPA is inclusive and friendly and acts like a mutual-support society. The events are stimulating, worthwhile and often great fun and I believe most members share this opinion.”"
"Regular, well organised events, excellent updates and information by email along with a warm welcome from the Chair and Coordinator are just some of the positives at BHBPA."
